Say hello to new Limited Edition Moscato Mango Swirl

As a fourth-generation family member and Brown Brothers' Head of Innovation, Emma Brown knows a thing or two about producing delicious, boundary-pushing wine. But just what does it take to launch a new Limited Edition flavoured drop – in this case our much-anticipated Moscato Mango Swirl?

To get a behind-the-scenes look at this fascinating process from end-to-end, we sat down with Emma to discover all.

Q: Congrats on the launch of Brown Brothers new Limited Edition wine, Moscato Mango Swirl!

Thank you! Any new product launched requires such a huge effort from the whole business so it’s exciting to see the hard work finally launching! 

Q: Limited Edition Moscato Strawberries & Cream, Cienna Salted Caramel – it’s no secret that Brown Brothers’ Limited Edition flavours have been wildly popular. How did the original idea come about to produce these unique wines?

Brown Brothers has always had a promise to consumers to have them at the heart of everything we do. We have a commitment to deliver the best tasting wines to consumers, wherever they are on their wine journey.

The flavours have been an important way for us to celebrate taste in the wine category, but also introduce people to wine in a familiar way, driving confidence and enjoyment for anyone who’s interested in trying something different in wine.

Q: How does the business go about choosing which Limited Edition flavour to produce next? Does it involve going out and asking our customers, or is it more of an internal decision?

As mentioned, everything we do is with the consumer in mind. We look to other categories outside of wine that our audience is interested in globally, and then look to which of these flavours will be complimented in wine. It’s a fairly long process to get the right flavour profile, and we will never put anything in the bottle we wouldn’t be proud to serve on our own tables - a pretty stringent test of whether it’s worthy of the Brown Brothers name!

Q: Can you tell us about the winemaking process for creating these Limited Edition flavours? In terms of Mango Swirl, how does it differ from making our regular Moscato?

We make all of our wines to the highest quality. Therefore, a wine like the Limited Edition Mango Swirl is made, from vineyard to winery, with all of the same love as our regular Moscato. Then some magic is added with the flavour profile to make it taste extra delicious with a mango and subtle coconut twist.

Q: Let’s talk about taste. How does the business decide on the final flavour? Is this purely the winemaker’s decision, or is it more of a collaborative thing?

Staying true to the consumer being at the heart of everything we do, we actually asked our loyal consumers to recommend flavours for us to try in the winery. It was from this extensive list of fan-favourite flavours that we had some exciting candidates to taste!

Everything we do at Brown Brothers is a collaborative effort so from this list, we consulted closely with our winemaking team around which will be the most delicious in combination with our wines. We then unanimously decided Mango Swirl was a winning taste!

Q: What excites you most about Mango Swirl?

I am particularly excited about Mango Swirl being a really fun way for people to try Moscato for the first time. Wine can sometimes be quite intimidating and you’re not sure if you’ll like the taste. Anyone who likes Mango is going to LOVE this wine, and it offers an approachable, exciting way to enter into wine for the first time or find a new occasion to drink wine in (a warm summer day with friends for me!)

Q: With spring and summer on the horizon – thank goodness! – what sort of occasion do you see Mango Swirl being perfect for? Or is it one of those versatile anytime-type wines?

When I think of this wine, I think of warm summer days enjoying one of my favourite summer foods, mango! This refreshing summer drink transports me to summer days with friends. The sophisticated palate and refreshing zest of this wine also excites about experimenting with Moscato Mango Swirl in cocktails and mocktails this summer!

Q: Final question. Can you give us a clue as to what’s on the horizon in terms of Limited Edition flavours, or is that a tightly-held secret?

We are always looking at new and different tastes and will continue to rely on the feedback from our consumers to guide us into the future... so send us your thoughts and watch this space!
