Second sparkling win for Brown Brothers in Adelaide

[Fri 10 October 2008]

Brown Brothers is celebrating yet another significant win in the highly competitive South Australian market after receiving a second trophy in three years for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier NV at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

This highly regarded wine won the Trophy for ‘Best Sparkling Wine Under $20’ and follows on from its win in the same category at the 2006 show. The award was accepted by Brown Brothers Winemaker Geoff Alexander.

Brown Brothers CEO, Ross Brown, said the award demonstrated the importance of having access to the best possible growing conditions for the fruit.

“The majority of the fruit used in this wine was grown at our Whitlands vineyard where, at 800 metres above sea level, the conditions are perfect for producing cool climate grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay,” he said.

“By using the best quality fruit and taking the time and care to make the wine the traditional way, we have been able to produce a sparkling wine of exceptional quality.”

The Brown Brothers NV Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier has an attractive pale green-gold colour with strong aromas of green apples which carry through to the palate and is completed by a delicate and refreshing acid finish.

Chardonnay from cool regions provides finesse, lightness and elegance and on tasting is detectable initially due to its aromatic lift and relatively high fruit intensity.  On the other hand, Pinot Noir, the backbone to many sparkling wines, provides fullness, weight and length to the palate while Pinot Meunier adds fruitiness and roundness.
