Pinot Grigio claims major wine show Trophy

[Sat 7 November 2009]

Brown Brothers 2008 Pinot Grigio has won a Trophy at the prestigious Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show.

This ever popular wine was voted as best wine in the show for a commercial volume product. Sourced from one of Australia’s highest and coolest vineyards to ensure the crisps and distinctly clean flavour of an authentic Pinot Grigio, it’s no wonder this wine has reached such lofty heights!

The Show

The Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show aims to provide an alternative to the mainstream wine shows, a dedicated forum for alternative or emerging wine varieties and to encourage alternative, more cutting edge judging procedures. From humble beginnings 10 years ago, the show now attracts over 600 entries from throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The Wine

In the glass the wine is a very light straw colour with a youthful green hue.  It boasts fresh aromas of citrus and pear, while the palate offers some distinct savoury characters and a crisp finish full of delicate acidity thanks to the cool climate fruit.  Unlike the French style which is more rich and full on the palate, Pinot Grigio is crisp, fresh and savoury. True to Pinot Grigio style, this is best served chilled and enjoyed within 1-3 years of vintage.
